Mapping Minehead’s Community
In 2023, we used the Understory mapping tool to explore how groups and organisations in Minehead connect. This helped us uncover hidden patterns and stories of collaboration. We’re now beginning a new four-year phase of this work, remapping the community with an eye on how networks shift, grow, and respond to change. We’re still shaping what this will look like — and we want to shape it with you. We’ll be out in the community throughout 2025 and beyond, strengthening the web of relationships that already exists and discovering new ways to support each other.
Building Stronger Networks
Understory isn’t a ‘project’, it’s part of everything we do. In every area of our work, we seek to build strong networks through solid relationships and connections. Whether it’s mapping nature or mapping community groups, Understory is all about bringing people together to imagine a better future.
What’s Next?
In West Somerset, we’re working with local people to explore how communities can imagine and shape flourishing futures together. Using simple tools like maps, we make visible the often-hidden relationships and networks that connect us. But Understory is about more than mapping — it’s about building trust, deepening belonging, and supporting collective action in place.
