Minehead Plan: Inspiring People and Place
The Minehead Plan presents a vision and strategy to help direct the future of Minehead. It was prepared in 2021 by PER Consulting on behalf of Minehead and Coast Development Trust.
The Minehead Plan: Inspiring People & Place takes a holistic view of the challenges facing Minehead’s future. It provides a fresh perspective on the way forward, to help enhance and grow the economic and social well-being of the town.
Minehead Bay Festival
Since 2022, MCDT has been producing the Minehead Bay Festival. The festival is a celebration of art, culture, and live music, bringing the local community and visitors together to enjoy an amazing day on Minehead’s beautiful seafront.
Born from a passionate belief in the power of human connections, the festival is about more than just performances—it’s a space where everyone can get involved, discover new things, and make amazing memories together.
Understory Mapping Project
Understory is a collaborative and creative way of working that helps people come together to build stronger connections with each other, with nature, and with the stories that shape our shared past and future.
At its heart, Understory believes that relationships are the foundation for positive change, and by understanding how we’re all connected, we can imagine new possibilities for our communities and the places we love.
Climate Adaptation Plan
In 2024, Minehead and Coast Development Trust worked in close partnership with the Somerset Wildlife Trust on the Minehead Act to Adapt project. Through in-person and online consultation with the local community, a comprehensive Climate Adaptation Plan for Minehead was produced.
On January the 18th 2025, Minehead and Coast Development Trust and Somerset Wildlife Trust hosted an event launching the Minehead Climate Adaptation Plan.
Flags of Nature
We’re working with our wonderful partners at Somerset Wildlife Trust, Exmoor National Park and the National Trust to deliver and promote a year of nature-focused events in West Somerset.
These events will culminate in a wonderful and impactful public art display at the Minehead Bay Festival.
Minehead People and Place Partnership
The Minehead People and Place Partnership exists as a tool for partnership working and a vehicle for bringing about the actions in the Minehead Plan. If you are interested in finding out more about what happens in the meetings, you can find previous meeting minutes here.

A permanent Seafront photography exhibition by our talented community that celebrates our beautiful town and its heritage.

Two brand new shelters on Minehead’s Esplanade, working with local architects and contractors.
BioBlitz / Nature Watch
In 2023, we teamed up with Somerset Wildlife Trust, National Trust, and Exmoor National Park to run free environmental events.
LEGACY PROJECTS
Minehead’s Old Hospital
Minehead and Coast Development Trust (formerly Minehead Development Trust) was created around a shared purpose and vision of acquiring the historic Old Hospital building on The Avenue and repurposing it for the use of the community. Unfortunately, the Trust was unsuccessful in securing the building at the time, but it remains an ambition of the Trust to one day see this magnificent building in community hands!
