Minehead Climate Adaptation Plan: Green Action Group Launched!
In January 2025, we launched the Minehead Climate Adaptation Plan, co-created with local residents and supported by Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Act to Adapt team. Since then, we have been working hard to share the plan across Minehead and Somerset, ensuring that as many people as possible are aware of the challenges we face and the opportunities to make our community more resilient.
Now, we are moving from planning to action.
On 18th November 2025, we held the first meeting of the new Green Action Group, bringing together individuals, volunteers, community groups, and organisations working for climate, nature, and the environment across West Somerset. This group will help turn the Climate Adaptation Plan into tangible, community-led change.
Why the Green Action Group?
The group has been created to:
- Make collective decisions guided by the Climate Adaptation Plan
- Identify people and organisations best placed to deliver specific actions
- Support grassroots environmental initiatives
- Strengthen communication and collaboration across West Somerset
- Connect local people and groups passionate about climate and nature
By working together, we can:
- Ensure local voices influence adaptation decisions
- Take practical action on priority projects
- Advocate for our local environment and wildlife
- Protect the landscapes and places we value
- Build an evidence base to support future funding bids

What We Covered
The session included:
- An introduction to the Minehead Climate Adaptation Plan
- Updates on local adaptation and nature projects
- A group discussion and “quick wins” voting activity to identify actions we can deliver rapidly and at low cost
- A conversation about who else should be involved and how the group should operate in the future
Next Steps
At our next meeting (January, date TBC), we will:
- Co-design how the group will work going forward
- Identify priority projects and funding opportunities
- Explore topics raised during this first session
- Agree a regular meeting schedule and locations
The time to act is now, and we are excited to take the next steps together.
