Horner Wood. Temperate Rainforest Engagement
On 21 September, the Autumn equinox, the National Trust hosted a special Temperate Rainforest Engagement Event (TREE) in Horner Wood and Horner Farm Barn for the Social Material group, with support from our team.
The day began with a guided walk along the access trail at Webber’s Post, before moving into a creative workshop with Minehead-based artist Elizabeth Woodger. Using natural materials found in the woodland, the group made beautiful lumen prints, capturing the textures and shapes of Horner Wood.
Hands-on citizen science was another highlight, with activities including the Big River Watch, the Great UK Water Blitz, and water quality testing. These offered participants a chance to contribute to real environmental monitoring while deepening their connection with the local landscape.
MCDT also invited participants to share their reflections on a ‘Tree of Noticing.’

It was a wonderful day of discovery, creativity, shared learning and a celebration of the richness and beauty of our local temperate rainforest habitats.
