The Minehead Seed and Plant Library
Tucked away in the heart of the new Minehead Friendship Garden is a brand new piece of community infrastructure: a Seed and Plant Library, built to support connection and new life to grow across Minehead’s gardens and green spaces.
The Seed and Plant Library is a true collaboration. MCDT provided project management and funding, The Minehead Shed built the library itself, and Minehead Methodist Church is housing it within the Friendship Garden.
How it works
The library is simple: bring what you have, take what you need. You can swap plants, seeds, gardening books, plastic pots, or any produce you might have growing in abundance. If you’re dropping off plants or seeds, please label them. There’s a pen provided in the cupboard.
A cup of tea and a good idea
Like a lot of ideas, this one started with a chat over a cup of tea. Maya, MCDT’s Community Projects Lead, and Priscilla, who runs Family Support work at Minehead Methodist Church, got talking about the Friendship Garden, a brilliant community effort to turn a patch of green space in the centre of Minehead into somewhere everyone could enjoy together. Somewhere along the way, the idea of a Seed and Plant Library took root, and here we are.
About the Friendship Garden
After a year of hard work from the wonderful team of volunteers, the Friendship Garden officially opened on 20th June 2026 with a community event that brought together more than 100 people.
The garden, along with its attached rooms, which include a kitchen and accessible toilet, is now open for community use. Groups and individuals can book the space for private or public events, and the garden will be open for anyone to enjoy when there is staff in the building.
